Samarium-153

Half-life

The term half-life refers to the amount of time required for the radioactivity of a specific isotope to decrease to half of its original value. The half-life of Samarium-153 is approximately 46 hours, after which time only half of its initial activity will remain. Half-lives play a key role in assessing the risk a radiopharmaceutical poses, how a dose is prepared for a patient, and how it is disposed of.
